Kent County Offices and Health Department COVID-19 Testing Sites Closed in Observance of Thanksgiving

Most Kent County offices and COVID-19 testing sites will be closed on Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. All offices will reopen Monday, November 30 at 8 a.m.

A few service exemptions are:

  • The Kent County Correctional Facility will remain open with regular hours; however, all other services will be closed. All Department of Public Works services will be closed Thursday, November 26 but disposal facilities will be open Friday, November 27.
  • The NxGen LINC Up site has openings for COVID-19 testing starting Monday, November 30 and Baxter Holistic Center has openings starting Tuesday, December 1. More COVID-19 testing locations can be found at www.accesskent.com/covid-testing.

A majority of Kent County offices are open to the public. All residents must wear a face covering or face mask when entering any County building.We understand some residents have medical conditions that prevent them from wearing face coverings, and we will follow the Governor’s latest order on who is exempt from this requirement.

Online Services
Additionally, residents are asked to adhere to the following safety procedures when entering county facilities:
  • stay home if they are feeling any symptoms of illness or exposed to someone with COVID-19,
  • sanitize their hands upon entering the building with the sanitizer available, and
  • maintain a 6-foot physical distance between others.
Prior to visiting any County facility, residents are encouraged to visit the county’s website or call 616-632-7590 to determine if their service can be fulfilled remotely.

    In order to facilitate the business of the court, the court is enacting the following measures related to court proceedings:
    • Proceedings will be conducted virtually to the maximum extent possible, consistent with Administrative Order No. 2020-6.
    • In-person proceedings are limited to those where there is a statutory or constitutional right that has not been waived.
    • In the event that an in-person hearing must be held, (#2) that hearing will be limited to no more than ten people or any number that ensures six-foot social distancing at all times. Face coverings will be required in court in a manner consistent with the SCAO Return to Full Capacity Guide. They will/will not be provided by the court prior to entry.
    • Offsite in-person visits with probationers and clients will be discontinued or limited to the greatest extent possible.
    • Pursuant to MCR 8.110(C), members of the public or staff who refuse to wear required face coverings or adhere to social distancing requirements may be asked to leave the court facility.
    • Any member of the public who is asked to leave the court facility must be offered an opportunity to conduct court business virtually, attend court proceedings virtually, file documents in an alternative manner, or confer with court administration to determine alternate arrangements for accessing the court.

    For the health and safety of the public and our community, the 63rd District Court is holding many matters using remote appearances, limiting numbers in courtrooms and other spaces, maintaining social distancing and requiring face coverings in the courthouse.

    • Remote Participation at a Hearing: Check your notice carefully to see whether you are to appear by remote appearance or in person. Contact the court with any questions before the date of the hearing.

    There is no entry for anyone who:

    • Displays signs or symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever, cough or worsening cough (excluding chronic cough due to known medical reasons), shortness of breath, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat and/or new loss of taste or smell.
    • Has a diagnosis of COVID-19.
    • In the last 14 days, has had close contact with someone with a diagnosis of COVID-19.
