How to eFile in the Specialized Business Docket

If you have not eFiled in the 17th Circuit Court Specialized Business Docket before, you must register first to create an account. - Log In
Log in to view and manage all of your cases, to file an appearance on a new case, or to manage email notifications and assistant logins. - File an Appearance
You must file an appearance before filing any other documents on a case. Once the court approves your appearance, you will have access to view the case docket and receive email notifications of any new pleadings. - Submit eFiling
Upload and submit all filings through the eFiling system. Filing fees may be paid with a Visa or Mastercard where applicable. You will receive an email confirmation after the filing is submitted and also after it is accepted by the court. - Parties Notified by Email
Once the filing is approved by the Judge’s office (typically within 1-2 business days), attorneys and assistants for all primary parties will receive an email notification with the filing attached.
- No pleadings will be accepted in paper form and Judge's copies are not required.
- All notice and copies of pleadings filed in this case will be received via the e-mail address you have provided.
- All exhibits and attachments must be submitted with the pleading you are filing. These should not be filed as separate documents.
- The "Document Title" should be completed with title used on the pleading you are filing.
Logging In
Once you register, you can log in and manage all of your 17th Circuit Court Specialized Business Docket cases in one place.
Resetting Your Password
Follow these steps if you are registered but have forgotten your password.
- Go to the SBD eFiling login page accessKent.com/SBDFiling/
- Enter the attorney P Number
- Click Reset Password
- A temporary password will be sent to your email. You can use this to log in and create a new password.
- Passwords must be at least 8 characters long and include both letters and numbers.
Changing Your Password
Follow these steps if you know your current password and would like to change it.
- Log in using your existing username and password.
- Go to Profile.
- Click Reset Attorney Password to change your password. Passwords must be at least 8 characters long and contain both letters and numbers.
- Click Save Changes.
Assistant Logins
Attorneys may set up assistants with logins to view and file documents on their behalf for cases under the attorney's P Number. Assistants can also receive email notifications.
- Go to Profile
- To add a new assistant, click + New Assistant
- To remove an assistant, click
- Click on the assistant's name to edit their information or reset their password.
Filing an Appearance
You must file an appearance before you can file any documents on the case.
- Log in at accessKent.com/SBDFiling/
- Click File an Appearance in the top menu.
- Enter the case number and party type to search.
- Select the party or parties you are representing.
- Click File Appearance.
- You will receive a confirmation number and email.
- After you file your appearance, you can proceed to submit other documents. However, you will not be able to view the case docket until the court approves the appearance.
Case Dashboard

Requirements:- PDF format only
- Maximum file size 50MB
- Go to Case Dashboard, and find the case number.
- Click Add New Filing.
- Upload the document (PDF only) and enter the title.
- If you would like to add additional documents to your filing, click Add Another File.
- Click Submit. If your filing has a fee associated with it, you will be prompted to input credit card information. Click Process Payment.
TIP: All cases you have filed an appearance in will show by default on your Case Dashboard. To set which cases are pinned to your dashboard, click on a case number and check the Pin to Case Dashboard option and hit save.
Case Docket
You can view the case docket and filings by selecting the case number on your Case Dashboard. You cannot view a case docket until your appearance is approved by the court.
Email Notifications
When a new filing is approved by the court, all parties are notified by email with the attached filing. If the file is larger than 15MB in size, parties will be prompted to log in to view the filing. Parties that have opted out of email notifications can view all filings by logging in.
Managing Email Notifications
Email notifications are turned on by default. To change email notification settings:
- Log in and go to Case Dashboard.
- Click on the case number.
- Select who should receive email notifications.
- Click Save.
TIP: To add an email address to notifications without adding login access, go to Profile and enter the email address under Alternate Emails for Notifications Only, then hit Save Changes.
Fees
If there is a charge associated with your type of filing, you can pay online with a credit card during the efiling process. Specialized Business Docket filing fees are the same as for other Circuit Court Cases:

I have been admitted to practice, pro hac vice. How do I obtain a temporary
P number so I can file online?
You will be assigned a temporary P number via email by the 17th Circuit Court Clerk's office upon receipt of the order granting your motion to practice. You must then use this temporary P Number to file an appearance on the Docket.

I am a self-represented litigant (SRL). How do I file documents on the
Specialized Business Docket?
Self-represented litigants (SRLs) should file all of their documentation over the counter at the 17th Circuit Court or via mail. Currently, there is no option for SRLs to file their paperwork online.

One of my cases is missing from my Case Dashboard. What do I do?
Only cases that you have filed an appearance on will show on your case dashboard. If you are trying to file an appearance, you must search for the case on the "File an Appearance" page.
If you are still unable to find a case that you have filed an appearance on previously, please try the following recommendations.
- Confirm that you have filed an appearance in the case.
- Confirm you have the right case number and that it has been assigned to the Specialized Business Docket.
- Remove any date range search criteria.
- If you are still not able to find one of your cases, please contact technical support.

Are paper pleadings or Judge's copies required?
No pleadings will be accepted in paper form and Judge's copies are not required.

How will parties be notified when there is a new filing?
Once the filing has been approved by the court, all parties will be notified of new filings by email. If the attorney has opted out of email notifications, they can log in to view all filings on the case.

What are the file requirements?
- Must be PDF format
- File size must be smaller than 50MB.
Files larger than 15MB will not be attached to party notification emails. Recipients will be advised to log in to view filing.

Why can't I view the case docket?
You can only view the case docket after the court approves your appearance. You can still proceed to file other documents on the case in the meantime.
If you are not involved in the case and will not be filing an appearance, you will not have access to view case filings. You can purchase a Register of Action here: www.accesskent.com/CourtNameSearch/

How do I remove myself from email notifications on a case?
- Log in and go to Case Dashboard.
- Click on the case number.
- Select who should receive email notifications.
- Click Save.

I am filing on behalf of a non-party or as a counter-defendant. How do I
file an appearance?
When you file an appearance, select Party Type: All to view all available party names.
If the party name is not listed, you can type the name under Other.
If the party name is listed as defendant, for example, but you are a counter-defendent, please just select the party name you are filing on behalf of.
