Sheriff's Office

Victim Services Unit

Victim Services

The victim services unit consists of caring, compassionate volunteer citizens from the community who are willing and dedicated to helping victims survive a crisis or a crime against them. They strive to help victims with dignity, compassion and concern. They primarily assist the department officers with death notification. These include homicides, suicides, traffic crashes, drowning, fires, natural deaths and accidental deaths.

The advocates respond with the officers and assist the family and offer immediate short term crisis intervention. They provide grief counseling, offer community resources, provide comfort and care for the victims and their families, educate them about their rights and the justice system, and provide a liaison between the victim and the police.
